I think a lot of people on both sides of this idea are taking things way out of proportion without understanding each others opinions.
Yes, King Candy and Lotso had no real excuse to do what they did. No matter how far someone has fallen or how horrible their past has been is never an excuse to do evils things. People that fully support these characters in their actions should take a closer look at their moral values. It’s never okay to try and hurt others to justify the hurt within oneself.
However, I completely agree that these characters are “tragic” characters. But why? You literally just said their actions are no excuse for past!
Evil in itself is a tragedy. Sin is the most tragic outcome for everyone, and it’s this feeling and desire to cheat and hurt others that drives these characters to do what they did that is tragic.
Lotso was that perfect example of losing someone you love the most. He represents the father who lost his daughter, the individual who without that loved one becoming void and lost in a broken world. He’s esentually the “Darth Vader” of Toy Story 3, without the happy ending. He lost someone he held dear, yet he let that darkness and dispair consume him to where he transformed into a shadow of the person he once was.
King Candy represents the person who once had everything; adoration, respect, his home and who he was. He was once the hero, the star, the one everyone looked up to and suddenly within the blink of an eye had that all taken away from him. He allowed that darkness and desperation to consume him thus becoming one with that darkness: a monster. King Candy was what Ralph could have been. King Candy is what any of us could be if we allow darkness to consume us.
These villains are tragic because they represent what can really happen to people. They are our dark sides, whether we like to admit it or not. The choice, however, to overcome sin lies within ourselves. That is why there is no excuse in their actions. There is never an excuse to justify evil acts.
Instead of looking at characters like this as “poor babies” or “horrible despicable creatures who shouldn’t gain anyone’s attention” maybe we instead should step back and learn from the lessons they teach.

Posting my new icon because it’s so small most of the details are lost. >:
I got inspired by the WiR concept art. I tried to mimic Bill Schwab’s style of colouring, and it turned out alright for a first try.

What if Ralph got himself a pet to keep him company in his shack?

He adopts this ugly-as-hell creature from a different game that nobody else wants. It’s sweet and affectionate to Ralph and Vanellope and growls at everyone else.

No one can convince Ralph to get rid of it and when the Nicelanders pass by Ralph’s shack, they can see his weird pet staring menacingly at them through the window.

reminds me of that concept art where Ralph had a pet cat that the Nicelanders killed via steamroller

Do you support gender equality?

Congratulations! You’re a decent human being, and you don’t have to label yourself a feminist if you don’t fucking want to.

its perfectly okay to like terrible characters as long as you are completely aware that theyre problematic and as long as you never try to actively defend their terrible actions and ignore all their faults that make them the character that they are

One of the things I REALLY love about Big Hero 6 is that they changed all of the characters powers so everything is tech based.

I can NOT wait to see how Honey’s weapons work.

Went to see The Maze Runner last night, it was awesome!!!  Had a few differences from the book (of course) but I liked the changes just as much as I liked the original, so to me it was a really good adaptation! Now I just gotta read the other books and pray they get turned into movies too!  And the casting was perfect!!!

Go figure Wreck-it Ralph, the one movie about acceptance and including the forgotten faces in our lives, is excluded and forgotten from the Disney line-up 9/10 times.
